What it is
The Image Converter is a free online tool to convert photos between various formats like PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, and static GIF. You can also resize the width and adjust the compression, all processed directly in your browser without sending anything to a server.
Each format has its ideal use case: JPG is lightweight and ideal for photos, PNG preserves transparent backgrounds and fine details, WebP is great for the Web, and AVIF is the new generation of ultra compression. The system is flexible and even accepts SVG files to be converted into common raster images. With this tool, you can freely convert between these formats on your computer or mobile browser.
When you upload an image, you can choose the output format, type a new width in pixels (the height adjusts automatically to maintain aspect ratio), and adjust the quality with a slider for formats that support compression. The result shows the final file size and the percentage of space saved compared to the original, allowing you to compare before downloading.
How to use
- Drag and drop the image into the indicated area or click to choose a file from your device.
- Choose the output format: JPG, WebP, PNG, AVIF, BMP, or GIF, depending on your needs.
- Adjust the width if you want to reduce the image dimensions (leave blank to keep the original size).
- Move the quality slider to balance sharpness and file size for formats that support compression.
- Click "Download New Image" to save the result to your device.
Your photos stay on your computer
Most image converters online work by sending your photo to an external server, where it is processed and then returned to you. This tool is different: all conversion happens within your own browser, using the resources of your computer or phone. No image leaves your device at any point in the process, which guarantees more privacy (important for personal or document photos) and makes the conversion much faster, as it doesn't depend on your connection's upload speed.
(Note on support: formats like AVIF or BMP via image export depend on your browser's compatibility. If there is no native support on your device, the smart tool applies a safe fallback to PNG, displaying a visual alert.)
