What is the Thirteenth Calculator?

The Thirteenth Salary Calculator (or Christmas Bonus) is the right tool for you to find out in advance what the value of your end-of-year benefit will be. The thirteenth is a right guaranteed to all Brazilian workers with a formal contract (CLT), retirees, pensioners and public servants.

By law, the total value of the benefit corresponds to 1/12 (one twelfth) of your remuneration for each month worked in the year. If you worked the entire year at the same company, the gross amount of the thirteenth will be equal to a full month's salary. Our calculator automatically does this proportional calculation for you.

How to use the 13th Salary Calculator

To discover your value, follow these steps:

  • Enter your gross monthly salary.
  • Enter the number of months worked in the year (from 1 to 12), counting those who worked 15 days or more as a full month.
  • If you have already received the advance for the 1st installment along with your vacation, check the box I have already received the 1st installment.

How do installments work?

Payment of the thirteenth payment does not occur all at once. It is obligatorily divided by employers into two installments, following strict deadlines by law:

1st Installment (Until November 30th)

The first installment is equivalent to 50% of the gross amount to which you are entitled. It does not receive any type of discount! It is deposited in full into your account. (Exception: The law allows you to advance the first installment of the 13th together with your vacation. Our calculator already has the button "I have already received an advance" if this is your case, resetting the November calculation).

2nd Installment (Until December 20th)

The second installment settles the payment. However, this is where the worker's biggest surprise lies. In the second installment, the company is obliged to deduct all legal charges (INSS and IRPF) from the total value of the benefit.

As INSS and Income Tax are levied on the entire amount and are deducted at once in the second installment, the 2nd installment that hits your account in December is, in the overwhelming majority of cases, much smaller than the 1st installment you received in November.
