Random Number Picker

Draw a random number inside the range you set.

What it is

The Random Number Picker is a free online tool that draws a number at random inside a range you choose: 1 to 100, 1 to 60, or anything else that fits your draw. It runs the same engine as our online picker, opened straight on the number mode, for when you do not want to type a list of names.

It comes up in all sorts of places: deciding who starts a board game, picking a lucky number among friends, choosing a winner from numbered entries, settling a small decision, or generating numbers for a classroom exercise.

How to use it

  1. Set the smallest value of the range.
  2. Set the largest value.
  3. Press draw and read the number.
  4. Draw again as many times as you like.

Is it really random?

Yes. Every draw uses the browser's own random number generator, and every number in the range has the same chance. Two things trip people up here.

The first is repetition. Draws are independent, so the same number can come up twice in a row. That is not a fault: forbidding a repeat would actually make the draw less random, because the second draw would then depend on the first.

The second is the feeling that some numbers are "due". They are not. After ten draws without a 7, the chance of a 7 on the next one is exactly what it was at the start.

Where the numbers go

Nowhere. The draw happens entirely in your browser, so the range you type and the result you get are never sent to a server and are not stored. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many draws you make.

If what you need is to draw from a written list rather than a range, use the online picker. For two options, the coin flip is quicker.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same number come up twice?

Yes. Each draw is independent of the last one, so a repeat is perfectly normal and does not mean anything is broken. Blocking repeats would make the draw less random, not more.

Can I draw negative numbers?

Yes. Set a negative value as the smallest end of the range, for example from -50 to 50, and the draw covers the whole interval.

Is it free and unlimited?

It is. There is no account, no limit on draws and no cost. Everything runs in your own browser.

How is this different from the online picker?

This page draws a number inside a range. The online picker draws from a written list of names or items, and can pick several winners at once.
