What is the Fuel Calculator?
The Fuel Calculator is the Brazilian driver's main ally, whether to plan the costs of a long trip with the family or to make the old decision at the gas station counter: "Alcohol or Gasoline?". Our tool stands out from all other basic calculators on the internet for debunking one of the biggest automotive myths in the country.
How to use the Fuel Calculator
The tool has two tabs:
- Trip Cost: enter the distance in kilometers, the average car consumption in km/L and the price of fuel at the pump. The calculator shows the liters needed, the total cost and, if you mark how many passengers will share the bill, the exact amount per person.
- Alcohol or Gasoline: enter the price of ethanol and the price of gasoline. If you know your car's real consumption of each fuel, select the real efficiency option for a more accurate comparison than the traditional 70% rule.
The 70% Myth (Alcohol vs Gasoline)
If you Google "Alcohol or Gasoline", 99% of the calculators use the 70% Rule (They divide the price of ethanol by gasoline; if it comes out to less than 0.70, they tell you to add ethanol).
The problem: This rule was created in the 90s, when the first engines started to run on alcohol. Nowadays, modern flex engines have totally different compression levels! There are cars that deliver 75% alcohol, while others only deliver 65%. If you blindly rely on the 70% rule, you are losing money at the pump every week.
The exact calculation of your car
Therefore, we inserted the function Real Engine Efficiency. You enter in the app how many Km/L your car does on Gasoline and how many it does on Alcohol. Our calculator will not use the old rule, but will calculate the Exact Cost per Kilometer Driven (ex: R$0.40/km with Ethanol vs R$0.42/km with Gasoline), indicating to you the perfect fuel for your vehicle.
Travel Mode: Cracking the Bill
Are you going to travel and don't know how much you're going to spend on gas? Trip Cost allows you to enter the distance of the trip (Ex: 350km) and the car's performance on the road. We not only calculate the liters needed and the total cost, we also created the option How many people will split the bill?, instantly dividing the cost of gasoline ("The Crowd") by the number of passengers you will take.
