What it is

The Twitter (X) Video Downloader is a free tool that saves the video or GIF from a public tweet straight to your device as an MP4, no app to install and no watermark added. Paste the link to the tweet that has the video and the tool gives you a direct download button.

Unlike screen recording, the file comes out clean, at whatever quality the platform itself provides, without the X interface on top and without the quality loss that comes from recording. It only works with a tweet that actually contains a video or GIF — a text-only or photo-only tweet has nothing to download here.

How to use it

  1. Copy the tweet's link. In the app or browser, open the tweet with the video, tap share, and choose "Copy link" (or copy the address from the browser bar).
  2. Paste the link into the field on this page and tap Search.
  3. Tap "Download Video (MP4)" as soon as it shows up. The file goes straight to your device's downloads folder.

There's no quality picker: the tool delivers the best version it can find for that video.

Where the file gets saved

  • Android: the Downloads folder in the file manager, and the video usually shows up in the gallery too.
  • iPhone: the Files app, Downloads folder. To get it into your camera roll, open the saved file and use "Save Video."
  • Windows, Mac and Linux: the browser's Downloads folder.

Is it safe and legal to download Twitter (X) videos?

The tool doesn't ask for your X account login or password, and it doesn't keep the link or the video after the download is done. The lookup happens on the spot, straight from the link you paste.

The video still belongs to whoever posted it. Downloading to watch offline or keep as reference is personal use and low-risk. Reposting it as your own or using it commercially without permission is a different matter — always credit whoever published it when you reuse it.

Common problems and how to fix them

  • "Couldn't find a video in this tweet": check that the tweet actually has a video or GIF. A photo-only or text-only tweet returns nothing here.
  • Link doesn't work: copy the tweet's full address (starting with https://x.com/ or https://twitter.com/), without trimming or editing it.
  • Private or protected account: only works with tweets from public accounts. Protected-account content isn't accessible outside X.
  • Deleted tweet: if the author deleted it, it no longer exists and there's nothing left to download.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with GIFs too, not just video?

Yes. Tweets with a GIF are also recognized and downloaded as MP4, the same way a regular video is.

Do I need to log into my X account?

No. No login or password is requested. Just paste the link to a public tweet that has a video.

Can I choose the video quality?

There's no quality picker: the tool automatically downloads the best version available for that video.

Does it work with a private account's tweet?

No. It only works with tweets from public accounts. Protected content isn't accessible outside X itself.

Does the video come with a watermark?

No. The file comes out clean, with no watermark added by us.

Is it legal to download X videos?

Downloading for personal use, like watching offline, is common and low-risk. The video still belongs to whoever posted it — reusing it commercially or without credit can run into copyright.

Does it work on mobile and desktop?

Yes, it works in the browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Linux, with nothing to install.
